MiR Weighted Vest Review

MiR Weighted VestAs I mentioned yesterday, I really want to kick things up a notch so I decided to buy a MiR weighted vest. My main goal right now is adding muscle mass during my first 90 days of P90X, which means I need to focus on fewer reps and heavier weight.

While I have been doing that with the dumbbell exercises (I have a great set of PowerBlock adjustable dumbbells, highly recommended if you have the extra dough), the push-up routines and a few other moves are requiring far too many reps. To remedy that problem, I decided to buy a weight vest…

I did a lot of research and read a lot of weighted vest reviews before I pulled the trigger on the MiR. The last thing I wanted to do was fork out my hard-earned on a piece of kit that will end up falling apart in a year or so.

MiR weighted vests are considered by many to be the best available, and I went for the 60 lbs. short vest. Now, 60 lbs. may sound heavy (and believe you me, it is), but you can tone things down by simply removing some of the weights.

Overall, the construction on this MiR weighted vest appears to be rock-solid, which is really important when you’re talking about a vest that is supporting 60 lbs. of weight. It also seems to be fairly comfortable, but I won’t know for sure until I complete a workout with it. The vest is adjustable and features double padding and thick lining throughout the body and shoulder, and also includes a mid-chest belt which keeps the vest secure and prevents it from bouncing around or shifting while working out.

Tomorrow’s P90X workout is chest and back, so we’ll see how things go. Currently, I’m able to do about 60 consecutive pushups, or 30 when using Perfect Pushup discs. Ideally, I would like to be maxing out at 8-10 reps, so this should be just what the doctor ordered.

I’m interested to see how the weight vest goes over the 90-day course. If there’s a lighter version, I might try it!

I also have the PowerBlocks (the lighter set that goes to 24 lbs./side) and love them.
