P90X Fit Test – Day 1

Now just a day away from the opening ceremonies of the Zach P90X extravaganza, it was time to take the P90X Fit Test. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but things went really well overall…

The P90X Fit Test takes approximately 40 minutes to complete, and it serves as a benchmark to measure your future P90X results against. Here is a breakdown of the exercises included in the fitness test:

  • Pull-ups
  • Push-ups
  • Jumping jacks
  • Toe touches
  • In and outs (abs and core)
  • Wall squats
  • Bicep curls

As you can see, there wasn’t anything overly crazy in this test. Each exercise needs to be done once to failure in most cases, the exception being jumping jacks and toe touches.

Here are my pre-P90X fit test results:

Pull-ups: 12
Push-ups: 40 (I use Perfect Pushup discs)
Toe touches: +3″ (able to extend fingers 3″ past toes while seated on the floor)
In and outs: 50
Wall squats: 1:15
Bicep curls: 14

For the Heart Rate Maximizer portion, you are required to do jumping jacks for 2 minutes with the last 30 seconds at a furious pace. You must then measure your heart rate each minute for 4 minutes following the jumping jacks. Here were my results:

Immediately after: 148 BPM
1 minute after: 108 BPM
2 minutes after: 96 BPM
3 minutes after: 90 BPM

Last but not least, I took my “before P90X” measurements…

Resting Heart Rate: 60 BPM
Weight:
147.5 lbs
Body fat %: 9.5%
Chest: 38.5″
Waist: 32″
Hips: 35″
Right thigh: 18″
Left thigh: 18″
Right calf: 13.5″
Left calf: 13″
Right arm: 13.5″
Left arm: 13″

Pictures to come, stay tuned.
