P90X Fit Test Results – Day 0

P90X Fit TestI’m gearing up to begin the P90X workout tomorrow, so today I spent some time completing the P90X Fit Test and taking my before P90X pictures

So what exactly am I looking to accomplish with P90X?

I’ve always wanted to gain muscle mass, and as a cyclist, that’s really hard to do, as you’ll see from my photos. So, I’m counting on P90X to be the ticket, because I can do cardio all day long, but don’t have the discipline or drive to do weight-bearing or resistance training—and it shows. My measurements say it all:

  • Chest: 35”
  • Waist: 29”
  • Hips: 34”
  • Thigh (L/R): 19.25”/19.5”
  • Arm (L/R): 10.75”/10.75”

I also have a body fat scale, so I have even more information I can track:

  • Weight: 121.8 lbs.
  • Body fat: 12.5%
  • Muscle: 101.2 lbs.
  • Visceral fat: 3 lbs.
  • Bone: 5.4 lbs.
  • Water: 63.9%
  • Metabolic age: 14

And these numbers are actually higher than normal because while I’ve been off the bike for three weeks after riding the MS150 due to a respiratory infection, I’ve treated myself to all the foods I went cold turkey on the last few years.

I took the Fit Test, which you have to take before attempting P90X. If you crash and burn on the Fit Test, you shouldn’t do P90X. Thanks to my cycling, I did well on most parts of the test, with the logical exception of upper-body tests:

  • Resting heart rate: 45 bpm
  • Pull-ups: 1
  • Vertical leap: 11”
  • Push ups: 11
  • Toe touch: +3”
  • Wall squat: 3 min., 2 sec.
  • Curls: 11 @ 20 lbs.
  • In and outs: 126
  • Heart rate max after 2 minutes of intense jumping jacks:
    • Immediately after: 125 bpm
    • 1 minute after: 73 bpm
    • 2 minutes after: 71 bpm
    • 3 minutes after: 69 bpm
    • 4 minutes after: 65 bpm

So I’m looking forward to the next 3 months, because I know that by sticking with the nutritional plans and daily exercise routines, I’m going to build the mass I’ve always struggled to gain. I’m even staying off bikes for these next 3 months, which is really hard for me. I can’t wait for tomorrow!
